Sheesh, things have been so crazy this past week that I can hardly relax long enough to put my thoughts in order! Columbia is treating me exceptionally well so far, and I'm enjoying most all of it. It can get tiring at times, though; the move itself was exhausting, as (due to a quirk of fate and scheduling) I ended up loading my whole apartment by myself in the morning. Seems furniture and queen sized mattresses aren't agreeable to being lugged around by one person, but I got it done, and in less than two hours, no less!
Work is going well, and several new job offers rolled in within forty-eight hours of moving in here. Still rolling on paperwork for the government; the gears move slowly on that. Finally over halfway through through the process after sixteen months? Sure, why not. At least I'm showing myself to be well qualified.
Random thought: I think it's strange, but interesting, how some things work out. Seems that even when some people think I've lost, I still win. Hell, even when I think I may have lost it happens. Honestly, sometimes I'm not even trying. Maybe karma really does pay attention and turn things back after all. And here I thought it was backassward.
Anyway! I spent most of the morning and early afternoon out at the farm in the arena. Seems my western riding skills put me enough ahead of the curve that I'm well suited for hunt seat. Mounting a 16-17 HH horse with english tack from the ground is a bitch, though, I have to say! Glad I don't have to do that too often. Plus the damnable heat... this place is as bad as Charleston was. I never really thought of Charlotte as being cooler, but turns out it sure was, I just got used to it. Should be nicer to get practice time in once the weather turns a bit.
Random quote from the week: "Chief, did you just quote Outkast?" "Yeah, why?" "Wow, I didn't know you had it in you... I'm proud of you, man."
The latest goings on here are trying to make the plans for October's trip this year... I am thinking of doing the boat show and Fantasy Fest in Florida this year. I mean, why not? It was all a blast last year, and there isn't anything within 500 miles that would even begin to compete for a Halloween party. Who to take, though, now that's the question. I know Liz, who went with me last year, wouldn't mind coming along, and even bringing a friend this year (oh lord, I can't even imagine the handful there!), but who knows. I had a friend who wanted to go, but I don't think she's going to be free to at this point. Have to see.
Another random thought: Trillian comes up with the strangest reference links imaginable for chats. Who knew "it's here" was Kim Wilde's first single? Worthless...
Well, I'm going to get back to the night's festivities, loyal readers & creepers. I've got another busy week ahead; hopefully all will work out, classes go well, work goes fast, I make it up to Charlotte to see Alana one evening, and then back to the farm by Saturday morning.
For today, after all the stuff with the farm and trying to breathe for a few, at least I got my fridge well stocked. Have to keep a well-stocked fridge. That's all for now; never a free nor a dull moment! All my best, loyal ones.
