Another Day in the Life

Good evening, one and all! Another exhausting day down (for the most part), but at least most of it went at a steady pace. Unfortunate news, a friend of mine was in a bike accident over the weekend. He's still in intensive care, but he is in pretty rough shape. Massive head trauma, pretty much all of the bones in the left side of his face are broken, and he will most likely lose his eye. We're keeping him in our prayers.

Random thought: I love the dedication of my friends the Gamecock fans. It borders on religious faith.
Silly people and their apparent complete lack of understanding how phones work. I feel a Shakespearean quote coming on... something from Julius Caesar. Act 3.

Anyway, back to the norm. Today I found out that the iPhone apparently not only has programmed, but actually auto-corrects the so-called word 'I'z'. Good lord, I know Apple is supposed to be the hip system, but don't do this to us. Really, please don't.

Random Quote for the day: "Yeah... sometimes it sucks to have a soul."

Smoothies are are a great thing (a thought for my friends who have been picking on me lately for always wanting a smoothie.)

Two main things on computer systems that get on my nerves... other than windows. First, the ongoing battle with complex passwords. I understand the need for a hard to crack password, and we can thank morons who use their significant other's birthday or their middle name for their password for that. But the systems are always adding things. First it was a minimum number of letters. Then it was 'you must include at least one number.' Then two numbers. Then at least one capital and one lowercase letter. Then special characters. What the fuck is next?? Turn on your camera and make at least one goofy hand gesture while typing your password with your feet?

Of course, there is always the classic move from Dilbert's evil IT director: resetting the password to the entire text of The DaVinci Code (minus the parts that the director, as a Catholic, disagreed with.)

The second is the systems that have aging passwords. I can understand the need for this as well, but most have some quantifier like "new password must be different from your last 10 passwords." Well, thanks computer system; I typically lug around at least twenty different passwords in my head. To say nothing of which password goes with which system.

Of note: access to government websites and programs are the absolute worst about both of these.

I have to take just a moment to rant about spam mail... both electronic and paper. Paper is just frustrating and it fills up the mailbox. Electronic, though, is a whole new level. Eats up memory, can be malicious, and so on. But the subject lines for these things... who the hell tries these lines? They aren't even remotely trying to hide it anymore. "Please, tell me success stories about V"? Crazy misspelled sexual innuendos? Ugh.

Pop-quiz: What's the difference between Verizon and two tin cans and a string? Answer: The tin cans are cheaper and don't require a contract... and the quality is reliable.

Anyway... back to relaxation and enjoying the cool evening air. Stay out of trouble, loyal readers and creepers!
